Hey Procurement Legend, One of the reasons I had Process Orchestration as my number one trend for 2024 is because of this trend. I know many will state that Process Orchestration is hyped up. I think they’re wrong. They’re likely going to be the same people who have either an aversion to tech or want to protect the tech status quo as it suits their business model (Tech Consultants and the like).

We’re changing as a profession - there’s no doubt about that. Traditional skills have their place. They aren’t going away. I wrote about this recently on LinkedIn. I greatly advocate this to become the best procurement pro possible.

But as we enter the digital realm, equipped with a knapsack of these traditional skills, we soon find ourselves treading water in a deep ocean. The outlook will be grim.

We won’t do well.

That’s not to say we need these skills locked down before we begin our digital journey. Instead, we need an open mind and attitude to improve our knowledge continuously, and our focus should be digital.

In our first trend, I talked about the rise of Process Orchestration. In this trends video I put together, I made the distinction that I don’t necessarily mean the tech around this but rather that people across procurement need to build up the orchestration skill.

And here’s why.

I’ll be honest: when I started my Procurement career in 2015 after a sales role for the previous year, I never expected to be talking about Orchestration and Architecture as two fundamental skills for procurement pros moving forward.
