One trait of the best Procurement Pros is to be a self-motivated continuous learner. This is someone who doesn’t need an excuse to learn about Procurement. They want to do this to better themselves and their career opportunities.
But the amount of noise online can be off-putting.
So I wanted to give you some steps to take to become incredible at reading online, and learning as much as possible from the resources you come across.
1 - Read Later
Whenever I find new content online, I save it to Readwise via my iPhone on the Chrome extension. I never read it there and then.
I then take a dedicated amount of time, usually 30-60 mins every other day, to read through, or watch any content there.
As I read, I highlight the text and add notes where I have an immediate thought.
This works with youtube videos as it pulls the transcript, and you can highlight it as you watch videos. I only just learnt about this feature, and it’s a gamechanger. I learn 80% of everything new from YouTube.
Seriously, getting Readwise might be the best decision you make, especially when you supercharge it in step 2.
2 - Connect to Notion
Notion is the home of my second brain. It’s incredible and I suggest that all you stop what you’re doing and go subscribe to the paid version of notion so that you have no storage concerns.
I pay something like £28 a year for Notion and it’s the best money I spend without a doubt.
Once in, you can connect Readwise and Notion so that all of your notes come into Notion. Notion will be the place where you store knowledge, and it’s a great place for Personal Knowledge Management and it’s where I’ve created my Second Brain - an incredible idea that Tiago Forte birthed.
I have all of the articles, tweets, video, and book highlights all in one place.
This includes all of the eBooks that I read on my Kindle.
And this is where I can get super nerdy and progressively make my highlights better.
I do this first by highlight my highlights by making the key passages bold.
I then use NotionAI to help summarise various points - especially if I’ve made additional notes.
And I’ll continue to distil the information.
This part doesn’t happen often - and it’s overdue. So this week, I’ll be taking a few hours to go through my notes, to prune them, create additional thoughts, to summarise, to ideate, and al of this is made possible because of my Readwise —> Notion integreation.
3 - What Now
You can do whatever you want now. You might be content with storing your thoughts and knowledge for a later point in time to use in a project. I do this.
I also use it to create content - I shared last week, my Procurement Content Creator OS Notion Template that you can use in conjunction with this method.
The world is at your feet when you create knowledge in this manner.
