Hey Procurement Legends,
I’m still figuring out how these emails will work to deliver the most value to you. Feedback is always welcomed.
So this week, I’m sharing some interesting content I’ve consumed this week with some of my thoughts attached.
I’ve been exploring several rabbit holes - one is Modern Slavery, and the other is the longevity of our Vendors—especially those SaaS companies.
Ensure you’re a subscriber (some of you might find this directly on substack). We’ve got more than 800 readers, and this is growing by at least 100 a month. Our paid readers get access to more content, archive content, and behind-the-scenes insights into my procurement book.
This article was startling.
One in 200 People Is a Slave. Why?
“Experts have calculated that roughly 13 million people were captured and sold as slaves between the 15th and 19th centuries; today, an estimated 40.3 million people – more than three times the figure during the transatlantic slave trade – are living in some form of modern slavery”.
Clearly, as people of this incredible planet, we are turning a blind eye to every form of modern slavery in our “personal” lives. I imagine we are just as complacent when reviewing our suppliers/vendors - especially in high-risk areas for Modern slavery.
SaaS Startups Will Have to Care About Productivity Again - that’s the message.
If you’re engaging a SaaS company, whether a startup or scale-up, you must ensure they will still be around by the end of your contract term to deliver the service. In short, VC-backed companies are doing all they can to cut services, lay off staff, and move from burning cash to making a profit.
Sex for Work: The True Cost of Our Tea - BBC Africa Eye documentary
Following up on my newsletter last week - this is a must-watch. I don’t have words for it except to say watch it (45mins long).
Next week Paid Subscribers will receive more WiP on the “Future of Procurement” Book and an in-depth article on Personal Knowledge Management and how it could improve your career longevity in procurement.
